COVID-19 Cases Rising
Suggested Caption:
iHeard asked St. Louisans if they had heard “COVID cases are rising” at the end of August. Almost half (46%) said “yes.” More people (11%) also reported taking more frequent precautions (such as wearing masks, washing their hands often, avoiding close contact with others, and avoiding large indoor gatherings). This is the highest precaution rate iHeard has recorded since March 2023.
The current CDC guideline for anyone who tests positive recommends staying home for at least five days and isolating themselves from others in their home. Check your workplace or school for organization-specific guidelines.

Sewershed surveillance in the St. Louis region shows that the amount of COVID-19 virus in wastewater increased from July 14 to Aug. 14. According to Matt Haslam, Epidemiologist at the City of St. Louis, “Historically, the level of virus in wastewater is a very good correlate to the number of infections. So, we use this type of surveillance as a reliable indicator of community transmission.”
