Mapping COVID-19 Food Needs in Florida

March 30, 2020

Food needs in Florida have tripled since COVID-19, and in some counties the number of requests for food assistance is more than 10X higher than the same dates in 2019. Focus-19 tracks daily requests to 211 helplines in Florida and 30+ other states. We examined requests for food pantries and home-delivered meals by county in Florida during the first 15 days of the COVID-19 pandemic (March 12-26, 2020), and compared them to the same dates in 2019. Of the nearly 6,000 requests for food assistance in the last 15 days, increases have been greatest in counties shaded dark purple below. Mouse over the map to see the rate of increase for each county. Click in the legend to change the type of request.
