History

 1996

  • The HCRL is founded at St. Louis University with four staff and three projects.

1999

  •  HCRL launches CDC-funded Eliminating Health Disparities fellowship program.

2000

  • First edition of Tailoring Health Messages published. Book on Amazon
  • The ABC Immunization Calendar reaches thousands of families in St. Louis.

2001

  • HCRL selected as one of two Centers of Excellence at Saint Louis University.

2003

2005

  • The Ozioma News Service is created for Black newspapers. oziomanews.org

2008

  • The NCI renews the HCRL’s designation as a Center of Excellence in Cancer Communication Research for another 5 years.
  • The HCRL moves to Washington University in St. Louis.
  • The HCRL introduces its MIYO (Make It Your Own) system for creating health messages and platforms.

2009

  • “Rethinking the dissemination challenge” is published in the American Journal of Public Health, laying out the HCRL vision for translating science to practice.

2010

2012

  • The “Living Proof” app for iPhone and iPad is launched, providing access to the videotaped stories of breast cancer survivors.

2014

  • MIYO 2.0​ is developed, allowing users to see their products as they are being created.
  • The Milbank Quarterly publishes the HCRL’s recommendations on extending the reach of the Affordable Care Act, drawing on 17 years of original studies.
  • 2-1-1 Counts launched
